DepEd: First day of MATATAG curriculum successful

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, September 26) — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday said students and teachers in 35 schools across the country welcomed the first day of pilot implementation of its recalibrated MATATAG K-to-10 program.

“Generally speaking, the first day of the pilot implementation of the MATATAG K-to-10 Curriculum was met with positivity as learners, teachers, and schools were receptive to the new curriculum,” DepEd spokesperson Michael Poa said in a statement.

The new curriculum was pilot run in selected schools in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, Cagayan Valley, Central Visayas, Soccsksargen, and Caraga.

Prior to the pilot implementation, teachers in participating schools underwent capacity building activities and orientation sessions on the new curriculum, Poa said.

“Having said that, class program designs are undergoing further adjustments in some schools to address the changes in time allotments of particular learning areas,” he noted.

The DepEd spokesperson said they expect a period of adjustment, as authorities determine needed improvements before MATATAG undergoes nationwide phased implementation by school year 2024 to 2025.
